2013-2014 Board of Directors
Comprised of business professionals, community leaders and people who have a personal relationship with someone who has Down syndrome with a new addition to the board this year of a self-advocate!
The board provides leadership decision-making, guidance to staff, fundraising support and specific expertise related to their personal and professional backgrounds.
Meetings are held bi-monthly and both board and members actively participate in a variety of committees. Sterling Lynk: An experienced non-profit executive and leader, entrepreneur and graduate of UW-Madison, Sterling joined MADSS in April, 2011 as its Executive Director. Before coming to MADSS, he served as the Director of Operations at the Urban League of Greater Madison. Sterling has been locally and nationally acknowledged for his leadership and service by the Aspen Institute, the National Urban League, In Business Magazine and Madison College.
Most recently, Sterling was appointed a policy and advocacy ambassador by the National Down Syndrome Society. Also, he is the President-Elect of Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action, the trade association of Down syndrome groups across the country.
Alicia Knasinski: Alicia joined MADSS in February 2014 as the Family Programs Manager. She will also be serving as Lead Center Coordinator for GiGi’s Playhouse, scheduled to open later this year. Alicia completed her dual Bachelor’s degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison in Human Development and Family Studies as well as Social Welfare. Working with MADSS is Alicia’s most recent of the opportunities she has had since graduating to promote social justice, raise awareness of social justice issues, and facilitate programming to assist the residents of South Central Wisconsin with reaching their full potential.
Prior to coming to MADSS, Alicia worked as a case manager for various community-based and home-visiting programs with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin-Community Services. Alicia is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Social Work part-time from her alma mater.
