New & Expectant Parents
For Expectant Parents
We understand that when you first receive a Down syndrome diagnosis you may have a lot of questions, fears and/or concerns. We want you to know that you are not alone and we respect all the feelings and emotions that you may be experiencing. We are here to connect you with information, resources, and individuals that can listen to you, answer your questions, and assist you as you make the best decision for your family.
For New Parents
Congratulations on your new little one! We want to walk beside you as you navigate the new experiences and answer any questions that you may have. A Down syndrome diagnosis can feel overwhelming at first, but as life continues on, you will be surprised at how “normal” life is with a child with Down syndrome! The same joys and disappointments that we have with our other children will be mirrored in the highs and lows we experience as parents of children with Down syndrome.
Parent’s First Call
We have several dedicated, caring, and trained parents of children with Down syndrome that are individually matched with parents who have just received a Down syndrome diagnosis. Whether the diagnosis occurs prenatally or after the birth of your child, we want to be a resource for you. What we offer:
Welcome parent packets, which includes up to date medical information about Down syndrome
Connection to other parents who have similar experiences
Assistance connecting to local resources for medical and early intervention services
Small groups for moms, dads, siblings and grandparents
Life Enhancement grants for families
Referrals to statewide and national resources
